Industrial & Specialty Manufacturing Packaging in Aurora & Colorado Springs, CO

Looking for Custom Packaging? We Can Help!

Industrial & Specialty Manufacturing Packaging

Some products fit neatly into a standard box. Yours probably don’t. If you build pump housings, fabricated frames, castings, control panels, or a machine only a handful of companies in the country will ever need, you already know the packaging aisle wasn’t stocked with you in mind.

Honestly, that’s the work we enjoy most. Colorado Industrial Packaging (CIP) has spent over 20 years figuring out how to protect parts that are heavy, oddly shaped, made in small batches, or all three at once. Our engineering and design team has built packaging for everything from fighter jet seats to semiconductor equipment, so an awkward weldment or a heavy gearbox doesn’t rattle us.

We work with fabricators, machine shops, and equipment builders up and down the Front Range, from Aurora to Colorado Springs and into the surrounding states.

Why Specialty Parts Need a Different Approach

A high volume manufacturer can engineer one package and run it a hundred thousand times. Most specialty shops can’t. You might ship ten units of something this quarter and never build it again. Or you’re producing a dozen versions of the same product, each one a little different from the last.

That’s usually where packaging falls apart. Stock boxes don’t fit, so parts get wrapped in whatever’s lying around and stuffed in with extra padding. It works fine until it doesn’t. A machined surface gets scratched, a bracket bends, a sensor arm snaps off, and now you’re paying for a remake and apologizing to a customer.

Industrial parts bring their own quirks, too. Fresh paint. Sharp edges that slice right through cardboard. Fittings that stick out at odd angles. Loads that are heavy on one end and light on the other. Good packaging accounts for all of it before the first shipment ever leaves your dock.

Built for Short Runs

This is one of the things we’re proudest of. Our short run manufacturing line lets us build custom corrugated, foam, and crate solutions with lower startup costs and lower minimum orders than a lot of packaging suppliers will offer.

For a specialty manufacturer, that changes the math. You don’t have to order thousands of boxes just to get a custom fit. And you don’t have to wait around, either. We deliver custom packaging up to 3x faster than the industry’s leading competitors.

How We Design for Industrial Products

Every project goes through our 7-Step Design Process, the same one behind our most demanding engineering work. It keeps the details from slipping, even when your deadline is tight.

In practice, we start with how your part lives on your shop floor. Where does the forklift go? Which way does it get lifted? Is it loaded on a flatbed, a box truck, or a pallet headed for LTL transportation? Those answers decide where the bracing goes, what materials we pick, and how the whole thing gets engineered.

If we could give specialty manufacturers one piece of advice, it would be this: bring us in before the product is finished. Packaging designed alongside the part is almost always cheaper and better than packaging designed after the first shipment comes back broken.

Packaging Options for Industrial and Specialty Products

Custom Crates and Crating

Machinery, fabricated frames, and large assemblies usually belong in wood. Our custom crates are built around the specific part, with bracing placed where it actually holds the load instead of where it’s convenient to nail a board.

Hexacomb and Heavy Corrugated

Hexacomb honeycomb panels are surprisingly strong for how light they are, which makes them great for blocking, pallet caps, and void fill under heavy parts. For products that don’t need a crate, triple wall corrugated packaging gives you real strength without the weight of wood.

Gaylord Boxes

Small castings, stampings, and fasteners often move in bulk, either between operations or out to customers. Gaylord boxes are big, tough containers that keep loose parts together and stack well in a warehouse or on a truck.

Custom Foam

Precision components and finished surfaces need foam that holds them still. We cut polyethylene and polyurethane to the exact shape of your part, so nothing rubs, shifts, or chips in transit.

UN Certified Packaging

If your products include regulated materials, such as certain coatings, adhesives, or chemicals, we also offer UN certified packaging.

Everyday Supplies, Too

Not everything has to be custom. We carry more than 15,000 packaging supply items, including stock boxes, tape, stretch wrap, strapping, and labels. Being a carton box supplier and a custom packaging shop under one roof means one call covers most of what your shipping department goes through in a month. Ask us about free shipping and delivery, or call ahead and we’ll have your order ready when you pull up.

Why Specialty Manufacturers Choose CIP

We run a production floor ourselves, so we get it. We know what a late delivery does to a schedule and how frustrating it is to chase down a vendor who won’t call you back. That’s why personal service isn’t a slogan for us. It’s just how we work.

We also back our work with our 30-day upgrade promise. One customer summed us up pretty well: “Great service, competitive prices, and they can make any box size you need.” That’s exactly what we’re going for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lower than you might expect. Our short run line was built for small batches, so we can often take on orders that bigger packaging suppliers would turn away. The exact minimum depends on the project, so give us a call.

It depends on the design, but we deliver up to 3x faster than the industry’s leading competitors.

Yes. We plan for edges, protrusions, and surfaces that can’t be scratched, and we choose materials that protect the part and the box around it.

We do. We stock more than 15,000 items, from boxes and tape to stretch wrap and strapping.

Absolutely. Send us what you’re using now and tell us what’s going wrong. We’ll look for ways to cut damage, material, or cost.
